Refactor optical throughput tests

Description

This MR mainly includes a refactoring of the optical throughput tests in order to fit the unit test model and satisfy PEP8 syntax requirements.

It also include an update of the sqlalchemy version as a project dependency and some minor refactoring/renaming.
