Change to use original layout files

Orel Gueta requested to merge use_original_layout into main

As suggested by @GernotMaier, changed to use the original layout files and reading necessary site parameters from the model parameters repo.

Tagging also @tkleiner since the comments added to the config file were discussed with him.
